Ayrshire Squash development proposal

The proposed plan

A phased approach to approval, pilot delivery and measuring what works before any expansion.

Decision for West Squash

Approval in principle — not a commitment to establish six new clubs.

Seeking approval to explore the proposal—not to spend, sign venue agreements or establish clubs.

Approve exploring

Agree in principle that Ayrshire Squash may be developed as West Squash's public-facing Ayrshire delivery identity, with a named West Squash lead and centrally approved exploratory venue conversations.

Reserve for formal approval

West Squash retains authority over programme priorities, budgets, spending, contracts, safeguarding arrangements, communications and partner commitments. No expenditure, venue agreement or new club structure is authorised by approval in principle.

Protect club independence

Townend remains an independent club and proposed delivery partner, not the governing authority for Ayrshire Squash. Any future local clubs would be subject to West Squash oversight during development; their eventual governance and affiliation would require separate agreement.

Measuring progress

Evidence before expansion.

Proposed measures; West Squash would agree baselines and targets before any pilot.

Access and delivery

Verified playable courts; affordable bookable slots; introductory sessions delivered; safeguarding and operator arrangements confirmed.

Participation and retention

Unique attendees, first-time players, repeat attendance and conversion to regular sessions, recorded with appropriate privacy safeguards.

Local sustainability

Active volunteers, coach availability, recurring club-night viability, venue utilisation and evidence of a locally led organising group.

No new club, court-access agreement or expenditure is assumed to be approved by publication of this proposal.

Delivery roadmap

A staged plan, subject to approval.

01

Agree the mandate

Agree the West Squash-owned delivery remit, approval route, reporting arrangements, safeguarding responsibilities and any proposed budget.

02

Validate facilities

Meet operators, review available courts and identify realistic pilot locations.

03

Townend-led satellite pilots

Pilot free introductory coaching only at facilities where access, suitability and safeguarding have been confirmed; assess demand before agreeing a recurring club night.

04

Hand over to local clubs

Recruit local volunteers, develop coaches through appropriate Scottish Squash pathways and support viable groups towards independent clubs, subject to further approvals.

Proposed first decision: seek West Squash's agreement in principle to operate Ayrshire Squash as its Ayrshire-facing development identity, with all activities and venue engagement subject to West Squash oversight. This is a proposal, not an approved programme.

Each club advances independently. Venue agreements, volunteer capacity and participation determine whether a proposal can move to the next stage. Association is subject to West Squash requirements and approval.
